Quiz #7 Study Tips

Since there is a great deal of material for you to remember, I thought I would put the study guide up sooner.

All the information can be found in your lab manual, fetal pig atlas, or handout.
Lab Manual pg. 163-177
Fetal Pig Atlas pg. 1-24

1. Histology-understand the different types, where these tissues types are found within the body, an example of each [ie. skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle are muscle tissue types] and know in detail (specific to what you had to draw and label) tissue types found on the 3 slides
  • Epithelium, Connective, Supportive, Muscle, Nervous

3 slides:

  • Compact Bone- be able to label central canal, lamaellae, canaliculi, lacunae (refer to pg. 10 in your Fetal Pig Atlas)
  • Hyaline Cartilage- be able to label chondrocytes and lacunae (pg. 10 in Fetal Pig Atlas)
  • Skeletal Muscle- location of nucleus

2. Living Cow bone:

  • Know how to locate all 8 structures on pg. 171 of your lab manual, I won't ask for all on the quiz but I might ask you to label 1 or 2 structures indicated

3. Human Skeleton

  • Axial vs. Appendicular Division
  • Bone types pg. 172 in your lab manual, know an example of each bone type
  • Be able to identify human bones, on a skeleton and alone
  • Possible quiz question: Displayed the arm bones, asked you to identify each bone and the type of joint formed. I could do this for the arm, leg, hands, feet, shoulder, etc.

4. Joints-Examples pg. 12 in Fetal Pig Atlas

  • Condylar-knee
  • Gliding- wrist, ankle
  • Hinge- finger
  • Pivot- elbow
  • Spheroidal (Ball and Socket) - hip, shoulder
  • Suture - skull

5. Body Movements pg. 177 in lab manual

  • Flexion vs. Extension
  • Abduction vs. Adduction
  • Supinatin vs. Pronation
  • Dorsiflexion vs. Plantar flexion

6. Other terms to know:

  • Exoskeleton vs. Endoskelton
  • Tendon vs. Ligament

7. Body Planes/Orientation pg. 167 in lab manual:

  • Planes: Coronal, Transverse, Midsagittal, Sagittal
  • Orientations: Anterior/Ventral, Posterior/Dorsal, Medial, Lateral, Cranial, Caudal, Proximal, Distal
  • Understand the locations of planes in bipeds (2 legs) vs. quadrupeds (4 legs)

REMEMBER LAB COATS, FETAL PIG ATLAS, LAB MANUAL, POSTER TOPIC IDEAS DUE NEXT WEEK!

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about
this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit,
but instead of that, this is magnificent blog.
A fantastic read. I will certainly be back.
